We Must Reduce Fuel To Mitigate Wildfires
Millions of acres of National Forests have been affected by insect epidemics and catastrophic fires, and as landscapes continue to change over time and fuels build up, forests are continually at elevated risk of catastrophic wildfires. We are continuously open to partnerships with various forest stakeholders in the creation of effective, cooperative, and enduring strategies to reduce fuel build up or enhance forest resilience against wildfires.
Wildfires can be a natural part of the forest ecosystem, but can become uncontrollable when there is overgrowth or mass amounts of downed timber. This poses risks to the environment and the communities around it. Our practices involve efforts to prevent or mitigate the impacts of wildfires, to reduce fire hazards, and improve wildlife habitat coast to coast.
Working To Increase Stand Resistance To Beetle-Kill
Beetle epidemics can ravage a forest, leaving behind an overwhelming amount of fuel that can rapidly spread wildfires to uncontrollable levels. We strive to collaborate with other stakeholders to implement prevention strategies, understanding that In order to be effective, suppression should be a collaborative effort. The pursuit of building a forest that is more resilient to beetle-kill is an on-going battle, made possible through strategies such as thinning and removal of infected trees.
